Custom Systems

Why would you want to buy a custom system? There are a number of reasons
- No proprietary components
- Your operating system is not tied to the system
- Your support is in the USA
- No "Try before you buy" software installed to slow your system down
- Buy exactly what you need
- Easy to upgrade
- FAST!
When you buy a system off the shelf at a computer store the price on the tag might not be the same as what you will end up paying. There is a lot of software on there slowing the computer down. They want $150.00 to remove that software for you. If it is not removed, when you boot your system there is a lot of programs loading into memory. This in turn has a significant impact on the performance of the system. You get a lot of software installed that is not yours. You will install the software and find out that it is a 30 to 90 day trial. After the trial period is up you pay for it if you want to continue to use it.
The hardware is proprietary, or built for that specific system. If you need a part, like a system board, when it is out of warranty you will pay a premium price for the hardware to fix it. To prevent this from happening you can buy an extended warranty. This is another $175.00. If the system has 2GB of RAM (Random Access Memory) and you want to upgrade it to 4GB you can do that right there. The RAM will cost you about $40.00 and an additional $40.00 to install it.
If you need support on this system you have a couple of options. You can take it back to the store, if you bought it at a store and not on line, and they will send the system back to the manufacturer for repairs. If you bought a Dell, or another computer on line you will call support and it will more than likely be in India. There is nothing wrong with India, with the exception of talking to a person on the other end of the line identifying them selves as "Bob", but you can't understand a word Bob is saying. After you spend an hour on the phone with them you will have to take the system to a USP or DHL depot to have it shipped back to them, unless you payed a premium to have them come to your home. When you get your system back you remembered you did not backup your data, but it is gone. Your support will be for hardware only. Software support is strictly prohibited.
After you add it up, that $500.00 system, including the monitor, mouse, keyboard and speakers comes out to about $900.00 if you get the extra RAM and extended support. That is for a low end system with a low end processor and system board. You can buy the system the way it is and not spend any extra, but you will have a slow system and open for problems in the future.
A custom system on the other hand is exactly that. We will talk about what you will be using the system for. The system will be built around your needs. The hardware and labor will be covered for one year. You can buy an extended warranty from me, but why? The parts are not proprietary. They can be swapped out with other parts. Your operating system is not tied to your system, so if we need to put a new system board in it that is not a problem. You could put that extra $175.00 into your system up front and get a stronger, faster system. There won't be a ton of trial software on it. It will run as fast as possible from the start. You will get the RAM we plan the system with so you won't pay labor to have it upgraded when it is a new system. If you would have problem you call me, right here in Medina, and I will support your system. If you don't want to bring it to me I can come to you. You will not loose you data if the problem is anything other than the hard drive. If it is the hard drive there is still a chance we can recover from it.
If you are looking at a system please go shopping and see what is out there, then give me a call with the part numbers and descriptions of what you are looking at. I will give you a quote on a comparable system, after we talk and make sure that you are buying what you need. This would fall under consulting, and consulting is always free.
If you buy a custom system you will be getting a lot more "bang" for your buck! With all new systems you will get a voucher for one hour of any software support you may need.
